Theme: Early Diagnosis – “Start the conversation, make a difference”
Every year, Dementia Action Week serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of understanding, supporting, and acting on dementia. Led by the Alzheimer’s Society, this national campaign brings together individuals, communities, and organisations across the UK to raise awareness and inspire change. In 2025, the focus is clear: early diagnosis and open conversations. Dementia Action Week 2025: Early Diagnosis ~ Start the Conversation, Make a Difference
Why This Week Matters
Dementia affects nearly 1 million people in the UK, yet 1 in 3 of those living with the condition do not have a formal diagnosis 1
This year’s campaign is about breaking the silence and stigma that often surrounds dementia. By encouraging people to talk openly about memory concerns and cognitive changes, we can help more individuals seek help earlier — and access the support they need.
The Power of Early Diagnosis
An early diagnosis can be life-changing. It allows individuals and their families to:
- Access treatment and support sooner
- Plan for the future with greater clarity
- Avoid misdiagnosis and unnecessary treatments
- Feel empowered to live well with dementia
Despite these benefits, many people delay seeking help due to fear, denial, or misunderstanding of symptoms. That’s why this year’s message is so vital: start the conversation.
How You Can Get Involved
Whether you’re an individual, a business, or part of a community group, there are many ways to take part:
- Use the Alzheimer’s Society’s symptoms checklist to talk to your GP or help someone else do the same.
- Share your story on social media to raise awareness and reduce stigma.
- Host or attend local events — from memory cafés to awareness talks.
- Support the Forget Me Not Appeal, which runs alongside Dementia Action Week, by donating or wearing a pin badge 2
Let’s Talk About It!
This year, let’s make dementia less of a taboo. Let’s talk to our loved ones, our neighbours, and our communities. Let’s listen, learn, and support each other. Because when we start the conversation, we truly make a difference.
